Written in 1932 by Al Dubin and Harry Warren for the pre-code hit musical ‘42nd Street’, this playful yet scandalous song references the wearing of ‘panties’ and ‘scanties,’ sex on trains, babies, and getting a divorce in Reno ‘while he still has dough…’ Like I said, scandalous!

This song, along with the tap dance step, also called ‘Shuffle Off To Buffalo’, is often referenced in cartoons, TV shows, and movies - including a very creepy version sung by Bette Davis in the 1965 thriller ‘Dead Ringer’. Stick around to the end of the video if you want to check it out. You’ll be glad you did!
